Another Poster
Task: Create a 11 x 14" poster depicting a garden through a kaleidoscope. Must be either completely hand-rendered or digital. No text.
Solution: Paint, scissors, + glue.

Found Alphabet
Task: Create an alphabet using...basically anything.
Solution: Toast, jam, and butter.
Self-Portrait
Task: Create a 18 x 24" self-portrait using only a xerox copier and photo booth photos. Must include initials.
This was my first project at Parsons! I wanted to create a kaleidoscopic effect, so I ended up spending too much time cutting equilateral triangles...

Typography Excercise
Task: Rearrange the following text to give it new meaning using Univers 55 font at 14 pt on a 7.5" square.
"For all the beauty of pure geometry, a perfectly square block of type on a perfectly square page with even margins all around is a form unlikely to encourage reading. Reading, like walking, involves navigation—and the square block of type on a square block of paper is short of basic landmarks and clues. To give the reader a sense of direction, and the page a sense of liveliness and poise, it is necessary to break this inexorable sameness and find a new balance of another kind. Some space must be narrow so that other space may be wide, and some space emptied so that other space may be filled."
Solution: I isolated the phrase "pure geometry" and then created a series geometrical shapes with the text itself. Name all of the shapes you can spot!

Absinthe Makes the Heart Grow Fonder

Hi, it's been awhile since I've posted. I'm currently studying Graphic Design at Parsons in New York, which is something I've always wanted to do (suck it, Comparative Literature/French! Just kidding...). I spend the majority of my time in the computer lab/studio because I currently do not have a desk (nor space) in my apartment. To make my time spent at school more worthwhile, I've decided to share my projects on this blog so you all can see what I've been up to when I complain about not being able to see the outside world.
For one of the projects in my Graphic Design 1 class, we had to design a 18 x 24" poster using a Facebook status from our newsfeed. Someone cleverly posted, "Absinthe makes the heart grow fonder," which I thought was brilliant. The main inspiration for this design was absinthe labels from the late 19th C., especially the Swiss Pernod Fils labels. We also had to design a second version of the poster, which I will post once I fix certain details (yay, more work).

Dance Yrself Clean
This is my entry for the LCD Soundsystem poster design contest. I was primarily inspired by Uday Kak's photos of prisms by Phillip Low as well as light, color, and of course, disco.
It's been awhile since I designed anything. I didn't do it for the tickets because I already have one. Plus, I wear a DFA Records tshirt to bed every night (when it's not in the hamper). Doesn't that count for anything?! (Please excuse this...I'm feeling really frazzled). Anyway, please vote for my poster!
